Heart Maps

HEART MAPS  .... With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I thought what better topic to discuss......They often say, "The Best Writing Comes From the Heart" .... well I believe that is SO true!  We spent a good week creating our Heart Maps and writing from our hearts.  I displayed people, places, items, and memories that were near and dear to my heart.  Boy were my students super excited to learn about me!  :)

Writers Block~ We talked about how writing from the heart helps us when we get stuck.  All we have to do is think about special people and things and we can write just about anything!

I was super duper proud of my kiddies.  Their writing was AMAZING! They wrote about their family, pets, blankies, and even ME!!!!!  I got e-mails from parents stating their child's heart map writing brought tears to their eyes.  How special is that!  Jeaz, I love them!!! :)  If you would like your class to participate in their own heart map writing then look no further....

Thanks and Happy Writing!
Love, Miss Gregorio

All About Animals

Hi All! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday!
As a newbie teacher, I find myself learning just as much as my students.
With that being said, we started our new unit in Science: All About Animals.
As most of you know, I loooovvvvvveeee animals! :)  Therefore, I was SUPER excited to teach this to my firsties.

The kiddies literally jumped up and down when I introduced the lesson.  As a class, we discussed differences between living and nonliving things, various types of animals, characteristics of a mammal, and how to classify animals.  After our discussion, they would complete their independent assignment.

After answering the questions, they dipped right into coloring the cute pictures and boy were they eager to share their drawings!

We worked on, "All About Animals" for about a week and half.  It was a really exciting week especially talking about all the different types of animals in our world.

If you would like to try this in your own classroom, you can download this mini-unit right now.

Thank you so much for your support and have a Happy New Year!

Meet The Teacher

Hi all!  My name is Teresa and I have been teaching First Grade for two years.  It has been extremely fun and I absolutely adore my students.  Prior to first, I dipped into third, fourth, and fifth grade.  I know where my kiddies are coming from and I know where they have to go! There is no other career that is more rewarding than teaching.

I reside in Bayville, NJ and am the oldest of three children.  I LOVE my younger sister and brother SOOO much!  I am also engaged to a wonderful man, Joe.  We will marry July 2013.  I am super excited about it!  Together we have two pups, Julia and Cookie.  They are the cutest dogs in the world.  I love sharing stories about them to my class.

I created this blog to share some of my ideas with you.  My class enjoys having fun while learning and I wanted to show you!  I hope you and enjoy!
